Kiwi Christmas and a sweet as New Year

Christmas this year... well, different.
I started preparations immediately after returning from the south island trip. My parents sent me a puzzle from Finland containing Finnish Christmas cards and Pentik (a Finish ornament brand) stuff and chocolates for presents. I gave some chocolates at the last Rotary lunch for my club and other presents went to my previous and current host families and to my counsellor.
Unlike in Finland, in New Zealand Christmas is celebrated on Christmas day. We had delicious brunch and then opened the presents. I was very surprised to get so many! My friends and grandmother had sent me presents from Finland, my counsellor got me a necklace,my previous host family a beach towel and everybody from my current host-family got me something. Biggest suprises of all were the Greenstone bracelet they got me together and the o.p.i nail polish my host-brother gave to me!
After that the Christmas day was pretty relaxed, we took some photos, ate some chocolate and then it was already time for the Christmas dinner, which was very delicious! My favorite part were the Christmas crackers which I had only seen on TV before. I wore my golden paper-crown the whole night. I also skyped home in the evening.
So yeah, different Christmas, but really nice. I wasn't even too home sick, because I enjoyed the day so much. And the truth is, I will have many Finnish Christmases back at home with my own family, but I think I will remember this one kiwi Christmas every time, and no matter how much I love Finish Christmas, every year I'll be reminded this one special Christmas and I will miss it and the people I spent it with <3

Tänä vuonna olikin sitten vähän erilainen joulu. Valmistelut alkoivat heti kun palasin Etelä-Saaren reissulta. Porukat lähetti Suomesta suomalaisia joulukortteja, suklaata ja Pentikin tavaraa, joita sitten jakelin täällä.
Täällä joulua juhlitaan joulupäivänä. Aamulla syötiin brunssi ja sen jälkeen avattiin lahjat. Sain kyllä paljon enemmän lahjoja kuin olin osannut odottaa. Kaverit lähetti paketteja ja kortteja Suomesta, counsellorini Neal antoi kaulakorun, edellinen host-perhe rantapyyhkeen ja nykyiseltä perheeltäni sain paljon lahjoja, muunmuassa suklaata, ihanan rannekorun ja host-veljeltä kynsilakkaa! Päivä oli melko rauhallinen, otimme kuvia, söimme suklaata ja illemmalla joulu aterian, joka oli erittäin herkullinen. Pääsin myös ensimmäistä kertaa tutustumaan vain TV:ssä näkemiini paukkukarkkeihin, ja pidin sitten loppu illan sieltä tullutta kultaista paperikruunua ylpeänä päässäni. Illalla myös skypettelin kotiin ja toivottelin kaikille hyvät joulut.
Joten juu, oli vähän erilainen joulu, mutta tosi kiva. Koti-ikäväkään ei liikoja kiusannut kun oli niin mukavaa. Ja onhan mulla edessä vielä vaikka kuinka monta suomalaista joulua, mutta luulen että joka joulu muistan tämän yhden kiwi-joulun ja voi ollaettä ikävä tulee, tätä paikkaa ja näitä ihmisiä!

For New Years we had a bit of a party at Julies host-parents place near Auckland. The place was at the beach and we slept in a tent, so many good memories from there you can imagine! Barbeque dinner, music and dancing, some fireworks (less than in Finland though) and the first swim of the year just after mid night. New Years day started with a great breakfast after few hours of sleep. We enjoyed the great weather and the beach and got a ride on a biscuit pulled by a boat from Julies host-dad. So a great start to a great year!

Vuosi vaihtui muiden vahtareitten kanssa rannalla, ja ohjelmaan kuului mm. grillausta, musiikkia, tanssia, muutamia ilotulituksia ja vuoden ensimmäinen uinti pian keskiyön jälkeen. Uudenvuoden päivä alkoi herkku-aamupalalla muutaman tunnin unien jälkeen. Sitten nautittii helteestä ja rannasta ja päästiin vieläpä ajelulle veneen perässä vedettävälle pyöreälle uimapatjalle (oli muuten hurjaa kyytiä). Hyvä alku hyvälle vuodelle!

I had a pet rabbit for a few days. It was found from the farm only a week old, but sadly it died despite my effort to take care of it ;(

I hope you all had happy holidays :) I'll be posting about the south island tour as soon as I can, but the workload is kind of stopping me from starting. Until then enjoy some pretty pics from the farm. Living in a farm... not too bad! :D

Toivottavasti teilläkin oli hyvät lomat. South Islandista tulee juttua toivottavasti hyvinkin pian, työmäärä vaan ei houkuttele edes alottamaan :D Tässä vielä lopuksi muutama nätti kuva farmilta, kyllä maalla on mukavaa!
